About
Derik Lopes is an amputee with a passion for storytelling. Born with bi-fibular hemimelia, a birth defect, he spent his whole life walking on his own using prosthetic legs. Now, he is a self-published author of The Withered, the first book in the Before Ember series.
Early Days
It took no time for Derik to adjust to his prosthetics. Since then, he has proceeded to compete in sports as a young kid including baseball and soccer. After high school, he went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in English.
Nowadays
Today, Derik spends the bulk of his time reading, playing video games, and watching movies. On some days, he does push himself to exercise. If given the opportunity, he would also go out on hikes and swim. If there is one food that Derik could eat for the rest of his life, it would have to be rice.
